Back from Argentina, With a Surprise

June 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It’s starting to get crazy out there. Last week, Senator Ensign was practically blackmailed into admitting an affair with the wife of one of his staffers. Last Thursday, Governor Mark Sanford fell off the radar screen, literally. By Father’s Day, we were told he had struck off on the Appalachian Trail to clear his head. Finally, today, the cat was let out of the bag. Sanford had went down to see his mistress in Argentina. Although the hypocrisy from that side of the aisle is hilarious, a husband and father of four boys leaving on Father’s Day weekend to go south of the border to have an affair is no laughing matter. Sanford showed his face around 1pm today. He was visibly emotional over the ordeal and appeared to speak from the heart. Even though it was an admirable act, I can’t help but wonder: WTF! Something is definitely missing. From a political standpoint, it makes absolutely no sense whatever, unless Sanford is in fact just an honest man whose conscience forced him to confess. Why would any politician in an office as high as governor just take off to another country for an affair? Didn’t he realize that someone would notice him being gone for 4 days? It boggles the mind. Other more daunting questions remain as well. As Todd Harris brought up on MSNBC this afternoon, did Sanford break any laws in the process?
